Ethoxypropanol is an alcohol that is presented as a clear, colorless, hygroscopic liquid with a ether-like odor.

 

It is also known as 1-ethoxy-2-propanol, 1-ethoxypronan-2-ol, 2PG1EE and propylene glycol monoethyl ether.

Its main physical parameters are the following ones:

• Boiling point: 133°C
• Melting point: -100°C
• Relative density (water = 1): 0.896
• Relative vapor density (air = 1): 3.6
• Flash point: 40°C
• Autoignition temperature: 255ºC
• Steam pressure, kPa at 20°C:  1
• Explosive limits (% by volume in air): 1.3-12

At the industrial level, ethoxypropanol has different applications:

• As a solvent in printing inks, paints and varnishes.
• As a solvent for epoxies, acrylics, polyesters, nitrocellulose and polyurethane.
• As a cleaning agent, as it provides a rapid evaporation rate and low toxicity.
• As a chemical intermediary in the production of agrochemicals and in the production of de-icing / anti-icing formulations.

At the industrial level, ethoxypropanol acts as a solvent in printing inks, paints and varnishes, among other applications.

Ethoxypropanol is classified as a Category 3 ADR, Packing Group III, according to the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.

To proceed properly in its handling and storage the following conditions must be taken into account:

• To ensure the safe handling of etoxypropanol, it is important to use protective equipment to avoid breathing or contact with the material.
  
  
• To ensure the safe storage of etoxypropanol, it is important to keep the product away from aerosols, oxidizing or corrosive agents and products harmful to man or the environment. It should be stored at room temperature in a well-ventilated area away from sunlight, sources of ignition and other sources of heat.
